Making Crosses: A Creative Connection to God
Friday, March 26 - Potluck Supper
Program by Ellen Morris Prewitt
This takes the reader step-by-step through the process of making a cross. Using materials unvalued by this world, the cross-maker communes with God while creating a personal cross. At the end of each chapter are questions and notes sections, encouraging creativity for the non-artist. “The paperback is designed for the reader to write notes directly onto the page,” says Prewitt. “When you finish, you have the book, your cross, and your cross journal.”
Working with the most complex symbol of Christianity - the cross - transforms our relationship with God, ourselves and the world around us. “A spiritual awakening happened when I was asked to read this book,” one reviewer said.
Ellen Morris Prewitt is an award-winning writer who turned to making crosses after the tragedy of 9/11. Her writings have appeared in Image, Relief, River Teeth, The Rambler, Brevity, and elsewhere. Her commentaries aired on the local NPR affiliate for many years. She lives in Memphis, Tennessee where, in addition to making crosses, she facilitates a writing group of men and women who live on the street. The book can be purchased locally at the Episcopal Bookshop or on line at http://www.facebook.com/l/ad7a4;www.paracletepress.com |
