Who was Francis?
He was a romantic fop, a spoiled son of a greedy merchant. He was a mama’s boy, who tucked tail and ran from playing at war.
And: He was a man who was utterly transformed through a vision of Christ Crucified and Lady Poverty beckoning him on. He traded clothing with a poor man, embraced a leper, renounced his father’s wealth, re-tuned his instrument from the love of romance to the love of God. Francis founded an order of Friars Minor, received ordination as a deacon, and turned the Medieval Catholic Church upside down.
This clown for Christ, Francis of Assisi, loved God, and, by loving God, fell in love with God’s creatures as well!! Stereotyped as a medieval “flower child”, portrayed by gardeners as an ornamental troll, sentimentalized by Moderns as a soft, sweet weakling, Francis died with the blood of the stigmata flowing from his hands, feet and side!! He brazenly forced his way into the Sultan’s presence to preach Christ amongst the devotees of Mohammed! Hardly a wimp!!

BLESSING OF THE PETS SUCCESS
I would like to thank everyone who came to the Pet Blessing with their pets and made it such a glorious event. That event has always been such an important one to me and very dear to my heart. Our four legged friends deserve God’s Blessings just as much as we do. This event gives us all the opportunity to visit with each other, gives the furry ones the socialization that they crave, and gives us all the opportunity to glory in God’s beautiful creations. Thanks again to everyone who came and made it such a success. A special word of thanks goes out to Betty Kay of Wags and Whiskers for providing us with the delightful goodie bags. If you get a chance to go by her store to purchase something or just to browse, be sure to mention that you found out about her at the All Saints’ Pet Blessing. She is such a lovely, dear person, and she just loves to talk with you about your pets.
Love to all,
Linda Baskette

Our Pets enjoyed the homemade goodies Linda prepared, here is one of the recipes our pets enjoyed.
RECIPE CORNER
Dog or Critter Cookies
1 3/4 c. organic wheat flour
1 1/4 c. organic oats
1 1/4 T. Sunflower or safflower oil
1 c warm water
Options:
A. 1/3 cup finely grated cheese and 1/2 cup chopped fresh parsley
B. 1/4 cup peanut butter
Mix dry ingredients together. Mix wet ingredients together. Blend both mixtures until a firm dough is achieved. I then cut dough into 2 equal halves and added peanut butter to one and cheese and parsley to the other. The cats prefer the cheese ones. Shape dough into an oblong roll, wrap in plastic wrap, and chill for 1 hour. Preheat oven to 300 degrees F. Lightly grease baking pan. Slice roll into 1/4 inch slices or roll out and cut out with cookie shapes. Place on sheet pan and bake for 1 hour or until treats are done, checking after 45 minutes. Leave softer for cats, crunchier for dogs. Then check every 5 minutes thereafter. Cool. Watch them enjoy.
