EPISCOPAL CHURCH WOMEN NEWS

ECW Quarterly Report

The West TN ECW Spring meeting was held at the Lichterman Center. Four of our members attended. It was a beautiful morning to “get away” form our normal routines and to meet other women in the diocese amid a natural environment. The buffet lunch was delicious! However, the real highlight after the general meeting was Jeannie Johnson, EFM Coordinator for the Diocese of West Tennessee. Jeannie introduced us to a distance learning theological education program of the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, TN. She shared her experiences and acknowledged the progress of several women who are in the EFM program. The Education for Ministry (EFM) program provides people with an opportunity to discover how to respond to the call to Christian service and carry out their ministries. We have a duty to prepare ourselves to express our faith to others whom we meet in our daily lives.

We were thankful for the fellowship and the opportunity to reflect on the good works of West TN ECW.

What's Happening at All Saints'? . . . . . ECW's Spring Report

The ECW is planning to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of All Saints' by publishing a very special cookbook and creating a scrapbook/journal series. The cookbook will be a limited edition collection of unusual and favorite recipes from parishioners and friends of All Saints'.

The ECW has enjoyed collecting recipes for the last two years during our taste and tell lunches. Now the time has come for the completion of this project.

At the May 1st Sunday Breakfast a preview of the monthly events planned for the 50th Anniversary Celebration was presented while everyone dined on fresh fruits and a hearty buffet prepared by the breakfast crew.

Dan Daniel opened the presentation and encouraged everyone to take part in the planning and execution of the events. All Saints' needs your time, talent, and money to make a successful celebration happen in 2006. Ann Welch informed us of the recent and other top priority projects:

1. A new and larger storage building to replace the existing one.

2. Landscaping projects (new plantings and grounds maintenance, and an outlined plan for systematic care of the grounds)

The Long Range Planning Committee members explained the events and the scope of responsibility. If you can offer assistance, please contact the member in charge of the monthly event.

The lightheartedness of the presentation was exhibited as thus:

"Miss January" Sherry Crone offered the Ceruti String Quartet with Wine and Cheese

"Miss February" Ann Welch offered a New Orleans Night of Cajun Food, Jazz Band and Parade

"Miss March" Linda Baskette offered a Scoth-Irish event with a St. Patrick's feast and the Wolf River  Pipes and Drums A Scotch-Irish feast featuring Haggis or (mock Haggis), corned beef, scones, etc. is considered.

"Miss April and Miss July" Shirley Bullard offered an Easter Festival of Games, The Egg Hunt with prizes, and yummy Easter Treats in April and a Kids' Carnival of games, entertainment, and party food in July.

"Miss May" Alma Harrelson offered a BBQ Feast with Blue Grass Music

"Miss June" Lona Maupin offered a Crafts Fair of unique crafters, outdoor music, and cookout food. If you have a unique craft to suggest, please contact Lona.

"Miss August" Sherry Crone offered a grand finale of a Saturday Night Symphony with a Picnic on the grounds.

The ECW's intention is to commemorate the founding of All Saints' by sharing its history, the history of the ECW, and highlights of our parish life. As we gather the body of Christ to receive the spiritual sustenance from the teachings of our Lord Jesus and partake of the physical sustenance through sharing the culinary gifts and fellowship of our church family, we celebrate the Christian life and prepare ourselves to welcome and share the Good News to others as Christ wills us to do.

Therefore our time and talent is concentrated on the limited edition cookbook and its sale. The money earned from cookbook sales will support the ECW's Charitable Fund which assists many worthy organizations such as the St. Mary's Episcopal School Community Fund which educates young women about the aspects of philanthropy and to supplement our church's Anniversary Celebration Fund.
